Simple Self-Care For Staying Well While At Home

I’ve talked a lot in the past about how to maintain your healthy lifestyle and beauty routine on the road, but what about when you’re working from home?

Will working from home increase depression or insomnia — or maybe on the flip side, will all this home time increase your productivity and reduce the anxiety of being in the chaos of the world all day? This stay-at-home life is truly uncharted territory.

No matter what, if you’re spending endless hours hunched over a computer screen, or long days on the couch you’re likely not feeling your best.

Not to mention, with the refrigerator in plain sight, you may find yourself subbing the long walks around your neighborhood for ‘long walks’ to the kitchen.

If your days off have turned into all day Netflix binge-watching extravaganzas, you’re likely in need of a little rejuvenation and connection time too.

Read on for my tips for quick and easy ways to incorporate self-care and healthy eating into the day-to-day routine of stay-at-home life.

Skip the Trends

In recent years, wellness has truly become a trend, but to fully achieve a lifestyle of wellness look past the trends. Sure, do that cleanse and take the latest zoom yoga class - but more importantly make wellness a part of your daily life.

Find some stretches that you can incorporate into your day (it may sound weird, but take advantage of bathroom breaks or the time it takes to queue up the next show.) In the evenings, take a walk while chatting on the phone with loved ones. Commit to scheduling calls that are just to catch up on each other’s happenings (good for the body of course, but the connection with others is amazing for the mind). On the weekends, take your newspaper, brew a cup of tea, and read outside. Read while seated in a yoga pose or two for bonus points!

Stay Social

Man, I can remember when the most important thing my girlfriends and I talked about on a Friday night was what we were going to wear to meet for a girls’ dinner / night out. Well, not so much anymore. While getting dressed up and heading to our favorite restaurants has taken a backseat to staying safe and comfortable, it’s not that we still don’t want to be together over a meal.

Looking for a bread breaking activity to do with your friends on the weekend that doesn’t involve meeting up in person? Here’s a fun one: find a local farm that offers fresh produce delivery or pickup. Once your have your box, make an afternoon out of researching and creating new recipes. Plan a zoom cooking night and then arrange for a food swap! Write a note to the friend who you’re delivering a meal to, it’ll make it extra special.

Not only will you all be supporting a local business, enjoying seasonal fruits and veggies, but the act of sharing something you’ve created is so good for the soul.

DIY Your Snack Game

Our household is fully focused on organic living and the slow food lifestyle. Typically, we love weekends at the local market, but we’re still finding ways to incorporate local goods. It may seem easy to skip the healthy stuff and give in to those cravings when you’ve been inside all day. Pre-make goodies like acai bowls, energy balls or cacao smoothies so you have something to grab when cravings hit.

My friends often laugh that I’m the girl that constantly has a cooler in the car or the most overpacked picnic basket. While my adventures outside are currently kept to a minimum, I find that keeping my refrigerator stocked with healthy homemade goodies is so much better than the prepackaged snacks. I’ll make snacks that I can snag between Zoom meetings and conference calls, or even just to venture out to my balcony to breath in the fresh air and recenter.

Beauty is so much more than what you’re putting on (clothing, makeup, or otherwise) and I truly hope these simple healthy living tips will support you in feeling good from the inside out.

Wanderfully yours,

Andi
