Boho on a Budget: Bedroom Tour

Hi guys!
Earlier this week I shared our domino mag home tour, if you haven't had a chance to check it go do that first and then come back here, I'll wait for you. .... I'm still so freaking excited about it! Alright, so now, after the tour went up on domino page I got lots of emails and DMs asking about specific rooms. In the interview I talked about our bedroom being my favorite room in the house:
“There’s a fireplace in one corner that we’ve lined with books and crystals and there’s beautiful light in the room, too. While my tendency is towards lots of layers, we kept this room fairly minimal. We used lighter colors and added wooden touches like the antique trunks, which we use as nightstands. The trunks are family heirlooms, a great-great aunt of Ben’s traveled the Orient in the ‘30s, bought the trunks and shipped them home (and they were antiques then!). They’ve been passed down since.
I love gallery walls, however in this room, I chose single pieces that have a bit of a muse-like quality. I absolutely love the vibe of the girl in the black and white photograph sitting above my dresser. This room has become a quiet retreat for relaxation and meditative moments. In the evenings I’ll light up some palo santo and sage and spend the final hour of the day winding down.”
So since it is my favorite room I thought I'd give you a bit of a fuller look at the space and share some ideas about how you can incorporate bohemian touches into your own bedroom, while keeping things budget friendly!

Fabric, Texture and Hats!
In the domino interview we chatted about the rack of clothing in "my corner" of the room. While we did this for space reasons (our house is old, with teeny closets) it also adds an interesting touch, vibrant layers and allows for beautiful things I already own to take center stage. My rack is one I bought at a movie set flash sale, however, this one will work just as well. Make sure you go with one that's made of metal so it doesn't sag in the center and then hang your favorite dresses and flowy things. I sort mine by color, keeping a favorite dress at the front and then sorting from light to dark the rest of the way through.
The wall of hats is something that's super easy to do too. Both my hats and Ben's are hung here. I didn't really measure when hanging them, I just eye-balled it, but hanging them like 4-6 inches apart looks good.
I kept our bedding pretty neutral: a simple white quilt, textured black and white accent pillows and a turkish woven blanket. At the end of our bed I added a faux fur throw as a rug! I do believe that investing in your linens is a good idea - there's nothing more luxurious than sleep right?! So treat yourself there!
Books, Crystals & Plants
As I mentioned in the interview this room is where we spend our meditative time. Sometimes I'll set up my yoga mat in front of the fireplace and totally zen out before going to bed. Several corners of this room have little zen touches, and I lined the fireplace with books, crystals and plants to create the vibe. To create this feeling pick books that you already have that have a cosmic vibe, and then add incense, crystals and travel inspired touches. We have a pipe and a rattle Ben found at a Native American trading post in Montana. We love bringing things home from our travels to remind us of the people and places we've experienced.

The eucalyptus hanging between the windows was leftover from a flower bouquet - I love drying herbs and flowers and using them as decor through our house. Bringing nature inside gives me a feeling of groundedness.
Let Your Art Be Your Muse
In this room I chose just a few pieces of art to finish things off. The black and white photo is one I found rummaging through an estate sale. I've had it forever! I added two pieces from southern painter Blayne Macauley and paired both on one side of the room. The initial thought was to place one on either side of the bed, however, I love the hat wall so much and the two pieces together seemed to work. The pastel colors in Blayne's pieces enhance that soothing feeling I was going for!
