As you guys know I'm in the thick of the process of writing my next book. I've been out on the road just about nonstop over the course of the last year. I've been soaking in every little detail of the places I'm visiting.
The book is about road tripping in style: it will feature 9 road trips and the creative muses I'm meeting along the way. I love the girls that have the notion of gypsy traveling down to a science.
On my most recent travels while heading West I came across these super cute little Coca-Cola™ bottles. The bottles have song lyrics on them. The first one I spotted was "Always on my mind" (currently on my driving playlist! gotta drive to that Texas cowboy music you guys!) and then "I'm your biggest fan." Biggest Fan is quite possibly my favorite song from the current Grace Potter album and also on my playlist, of course!
For those of you that have been following along for a while, you know that Grace is my bf's boss. I've had the opportunity to be on the road with the band a bit and I just love that my favorite Grace song made the Coca-Cola bottle. Go girl.
I've been creating new playlists for each trip, I swear half these songs I've discovered being in some roadside dive with a great sound track. Gotta love Shazam for that. (Download it on your iPhone to get your Coca-Cola Share a Song if you don't already have it.)
So, while I'm not a big DIY'er, I definitely AM someone who likes to keep little treasures and memories from the road. I'm not a scrap book type either, BUT! the bottles gave me an idea. I decided to create a little from the road message-in-a-bottle to store the little keepsakes from my travels.
DIY at it's easiest.
Want to make your own? The instructions are simple!
Keep the little things from your travels - I've saved things as simple as my receipts into state parks, cards from my favorite shops, cute little writing pads from hotels, anything really - just things that will remind you of your time in a place. Make notes of your playlists, or maybe a favorite poem that reminds you of that place... I also love picking little flowers from the road side, or collecting little rocks or stones. (No taking things from the beaches obviously, be mindful of what you gather).
Once you get home pack everything from the trip down into the bottle and voila! A little time capsule - you can keep it for yourself or share it with a travel partner to remind them of the time together. Here's a finished one from my California trip - cute right?
I'd love to see your version of the from the road message-in-a-bottle. Share on instagram and be sure to tag me and #SongsToShare.
