Despite all the fun and fancy hotels we may stay at on our many travels, there’s one thing we can all agree with- they just don’t feel like home. Sure it’s nice to get away, but whenever you’re on the road for a period of time, whether it’s for work or pleasure, sometimes we just miss that comfortable feeling of being in our own familiar space. But don’t let that get in the way of your travels! Instead, why not take a few things with you to not only make you feel at home, but give you your own little place of zen?
One of the quickest ways to make your hotel room your own little spot of familiar zen is to add a delicious scent to the room. How many hotel rooms do you walk into that you immediately recognize how great they smell? Not many. PIck up one of your favorite candles to stuff in your bag, and you’ll soon feel like you’re right at home.
2. Portable Speaker
Our phones are amazing, but they can only do so much when it comes to emitting sound. When you’re hanging out in your hotel room, make sure to bring a long that portable speaker so you’ll be able to relax (or party) like you’re on vacation.
3. Mini Fan
Ever climbed into your hotel bed, turned out the lights, and found that you’re suddenly surrounded by a deafening silence? If you’re one of those girls that has to have a little white noise in the background, even a little air circulation without the drying blast of ac, a mini fan might be just the thing to make your hotel stay ultra comfortable.
You know how placing a vase of fresh flowers in your home instantly brightens the room? Do the same thing in your hotel and you’ll find the room transforms into a sanctuary, not just a foreign space. Buy some flowers from the grocery store, local market, or even pick some on your own. Don’t have a vase? You’ll usually find glasses in the bathroom perfect for your bouquet!
5. Water Filter
Seems like an obvious and practical thing to bring a long, but clean water is something that is so often overlooked. Forget having to stock up on water bottles from the store and instead bring your own water filter you can just fill up and drink right from your hotel sink. No need to run out to the store whenever you’re out!
6. Essential Oils
Sometimes it isn’t that easy to get a full night of sleep when you’re in an unfamiliar bed. Sprinkle a few drops of lavender on your pillow and you’ll find yourself relaxing in your own peaceful dream bed.
7. Robe and Slippers
Forget wrapping yourself in a wet towel or quickly changing into pajamas to get warm. Pull out your own fluffy robe and slippers and you can sit back nice and cozy on your hotel bed just like you’re in your own bedroom back home.
8. Night Light
Don’t find yourself banging into chairs and tables in the middle of the night. When you have your own night light plugged in and ready to go, the soft glow in your room will help you know exactly where you are at all times.
9. Bath Products
If your hotel room has a nice big bathtub, make sure to take advantage of it. Nothing helps you de-stress faster and feel nice and relaxed than a long hot bath. Pack a few bath bombs or bubble bath so you can really take advantage of your new home away from home and jump start a relaxing night of sleep.
10. Comfort Item
Whether it’s your good luck charm you always have with you, a healing crystal that can be placed on your bedside table, or a framed photo of a loved one (because photos on your phone sometimes just don’t have the same effect!), bringing something with you to help bring some balance and positive energy into your temporary new home can make a powerful impact.
